At Professor Wellbody's Academy of Health & Wellness, we understand there's only one thing harder than making healthy behavior changes: Sticking to them! We all need a little help from our friends, and that's the purpose of the Wellbody Blog, a friendly online gathering spot--a community well--where you can dip into health news; wellness tips; recipes; latest research about nutrition, exercise, sleep and hygiene; plus, real stories from virtual neighbors who are also trying to change their lives for the better. Start from wherever you are; share ideas, information, inspiration. At Pacific Science Center, we believe each of us can do something everyday to improve our health and well-being.
Why Age is Just A Number
"Old age is like everything else. To make a success of it, you have to start young." - Eleanor Roosevelt
Your chronological age is not necessarily your biological age, and that’s not just baby boomer denial...
says Lauren Kessler, a University of Oregon journalism professor and author of Counter Clockwise: My Year of Hypnosis, Hormones, Dark Chocolate, and Other Adventures in the World of Anti-Aging. Biomarkers including resting heart rate, muscle mass, cholesterol levels, bone density, physical strength and mitochondria, are better indicators of age than your birth date, she says. Not to mention energy, passion and vitality.
Genetics accounts for just 30 percent of the rate at which we age, she says. Lifestyle determines the rest.
So reduce stress. Eat a healthy plant-based diet, organic when possible. Exercise. Get enough sleep. And visit Wellbody Academy for hands-on ideas about how personal choices can positively affect your health and well-being for years to come.
