Plant Magic: The Great Disappearing Act!
Grades K-2 | $320, or $295 for Pacific Science Center Members
 
Uncover the secret life of plants! What happens to them in the winter? Investigate this mystery as you learn about botany, design a terrarium, create your own homemade chia pet and make a flower that will last all winter long. Explore the hibernating vegetation of the Slough as you discover the many ways they magically master the seasons.
 
Winter Survival
Grades 3-5 | $335, or $310 for Pacific Science Center Members
 
Lost in the wild in the winter? What are the odds you could survive? Armed with a compass and map, canoe the twists and turns of the Arboretum's waterways. Build a warm shelter out of natural materials and practice preventing and treating hypothermia. Gather the skills you need to stay safe in the wild, so you're prepared for the end of the week "Survival Challenge!"
 
Winter Treks: Search & Rescue   
2 Day Camp - Runs February 16-17
Grades 6-8 | $145, or $135 for Pacific Science Center Members
 
Learn the skills you need to stay safe in the winter. Meet with a real Search & Resuce team and then master the use of important rescue equipment like signaling tools, snow probes and global positioning systems (GPS). On day two, we will practice some real life rescue scenarios. Will you be up to the challenge?

Mercer Slough

Break Camps at Mercer Slough will run April 6-10 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Wetland Wonders
Grades K-1 | $330, or $305 for Pacific Science Center Members

Seek out the hidden creatures and marshy mysteries of Mercer Slough Nature Park. Get to know why Earth is the water planet and dance the Water Cycle Boogie. Explore wetlands, streams and ponds as you marvel at Mercer Slough birds that migrate thousands of miles, discover incredible transforming invertebrates and sink your hands into amazing soil that you can mold like clay. From weird to wacky to wonderful, it's all in the water!

CSI: Cool Science Investigators, Decomposer Edition
Grades 2-4 | $345, or $320 for Pacific Science Center Members

How does a lowly fungus bring down a whole tree? Did you know that there are more organisms in one handful of soil than there are humans on Earth? Investigate the decaying side of nature as you canoe through the wetland, explore a beach and hike through an old growth forest. Probe the forest floor and dip for pond samples, then head into our lab to explore water and soil creatures with video microscopes. Conduct a variety of experiments and mulch, mulch more.

Geocaching Adventure
Grades 4-6 | $345, or $320 for Pacific Science Center Members

Did you know there are thousands of secret geocaches hidden around our region? That people all over the world are creating their own local scavenger hunts and sharing them over the internet? This spring YOU can master this outdoor sport. Find out how Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites let you pinpoint your location anywhere in the world and become an expert in the use of a GPS device. Canoe local waterways and hike forested trails as you seek out hidden geocaches. How many can you find?

Life Aquatic!
Grades 6-8 | $155, or $145 for Pacific Science Center Members
2 Day Camp - Runs April 9-10

Explore the streams, lakes and beaches of the Lake Washington Watershed. From the Cascade foothills to the wetlands of Mercer Slough, collect and study water samples, macroinvertebrates and plankton. Learn how to use field research tools such as kick nets, depth samplers and chemical tests in our state-of-the-art wet lab. Collect and analyze data as you develop the skills that scientists use to monitor water quality.

St. Thomas School

Break Camps at St. Thomas School will run April 6-10 from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Grades 1-2 | $320, or $295 for Pacific Science Center Members

Color! Sparkle! Dazzling light! Explore the excitement of science and the beauty of nature to uncover your inner creative genius. Discover the science behind our work while producing unique and original pieces of art. Make a kaleidoscope to reveal the mysteries of reflection and refraction. Experiment with mixtures and solutions while concocting paints and dyes to test on a variety of textures and textiles. Create your own masterpiece and experience science from a whole new perspective.

Master of Disaster
Grades 3-5 | $345, or $320 for Pacific Science Center Members

Secure the hatches and hold on tight, or this camp will blow you away! Investigate powerful waves, spinning funnel clouds, and rumbling earthquakes. Observe the swirling air currents of a hurricane, simulate a tsunami, and analyze the path of an avalanche. Discover where Seattle lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, and model a volcanic eruption. Discover the scientific tools used to predict and survive these natural phenomena, and create your own disaster plan to save the citizens of Pacific Science Center and your neighborhood. You'll feel the awesome forces of nature like never before in this whirlwind adventure! Campers will visit POMPEII: The Exhibition and see the IMAX film Greece: Secrets of the Past on a field trip to Pacific Science Center.
